Missinipe

The northern hamlet of Missinipe is a canoeist's paradise, located in Walker Bay, the westernmost arm of Otter Lake, one of the Churchill River's medium-sized, deep and slower-flowing lakes. The community, located 80 km northeast of La Ronge on Route 102, takes its name from the Cree name of the Churchill River, "mahttawi-sipiy," which means "difficult river."

Quiet in winter, the area comes alive in summer when anglers, canoeists and other outdoor enthusiasts flock to the Churchill River and through the far reaches of northern Saskatchewan. A small campground on Otter Lake offers seasonal camping, bird watching, and excellent fishing.
