"Meesawin" means "she is beautiful" in the Cree language, alluding to the South Saskatchewan River valley that runs through the city but extends north and south. The Meewasin Valley Authority (MVA) is the conservation agency the Government of Saskatchewan established to oversee the South Saskatchewan River Valley's cultural and natural resources conservation. The administrative area extends for 60 km along the valley. MVA plays a key role in the development of River Landing. It also manages numerous conservation areas, canoe ramps, interpretive centers (Meewasin Valley Centre, Beaver Creek Conservation Area and Saskatoon Natural Grasslands), Yorath Island, university grounds, a skating rink, and the 60 km Meewasin Valley Trail, including 22.5 km of paved trail. There is much to discover if you are passionate about outdoor leisure activities!
