Government House is a National Historic Site and a Provincial Heritage Site that offers visitors costumed tours showcasing Saskatchewan's living heritage. The house was built in 1891. The building housed the Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest Territories until the formation of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1905. The Government House collection includes over 10,000 original items from 1898-1910, period pieces, replicas, documents and photos.
The different rooms explore several themes ranging from the monarchy's
role in Saskatchewan to the influence of treaties, not to mention the Amédée Forget Museum. The museum gives you an experience of Lieutenant-Governor Amédée Forget's residence (1905- 1910) as it was at the turn of the 20th century. The surrounding Edwardian-style gardens cannot be overlooked as they offer a
welcoming space for visitors.
