Saskatoon: the Paris of the Prairies

Population: 266,141 (2021 census) (Suggested duration: 2-7 days)

Surrounded by glistening wheat fields, Saskatoon is charming, endearing and boiling with cultural activities, new ideas and gastronomic pleasures. It is the fastest-growing city in Canada. The city is known for the eight bridges connecting the South Saskatchewan River's left and right banks. The beautiful view that its banks offer provides a stunning panorama to those who visit this eminently attractive destination of the Western Plains. The city was founded in 1882 and has since seen several discoveries of woolly mammoth bones tens of thousands of year-old. At Wanuskewin Heritage Park, archaeological excavations that have been taking place for decades have shown that human beings have been living, hunting bison and enjoying the riches of this oasis in the middle of the Northern Plains for several millennia. Well on its way to being classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the place continues to reveal its mysteries. In the fall of 2021, even bison previously reintroduced into the park unearthed spectacular petroglyphs bearing their effigy with the tools used to shape them. The news has gone worldwide, from Western media to scientific journals.

Today, Saskatoon is the largest urban center in the province. It is the capital of the reconciliation process with the First Nations. It will pave the way for a new city inspired by ideals that pool the treasures of citizens who have come from all walks of life to live in the emerging metropolis of Saskatchewan.
