Chaplin

Population: 34,872 (2021 census)

As we return to the Trans-Canada Highway and head west, we will eventually stop at Chaplin Lake. Chaplin Lake is renowned for its remarkable birding opportunities.

More than half of the world’s population of sanderlings stop here to rest and feed during spring migration. Many other migratory shorebirds visit Chaplin Lake, including semipalmated sandpiper, Baird’s sandpiper, red knot and piping plover. An interpretive centre and elevated viewing platforms provide excellent viewing opportunities.
