The Forks
The Forks of the North Saskatchewan River and the South Saskatchewan River are approximately 30 km east of Prince Albert off Highway 302 East. The Forks offers an exciting panorama endowed with important cultural significance. There, the two rivers become one.
A trail takes you from the agricultural plain to the steep downhill river valley following a steep drop. Good shoes and hiking poles will be helpful. Observation points of the North Saskatchewan River along the trail provide quite a spectacular view.
A monument at the top of the trail evokes this site's significant contribution to the historic fur trade. Fort à la Corne was built just below the Forks and was the first trading post west of The Pas, Manitoba.
This area would also have been the first place in Saskatchewan where Westerners would have grown grain.
Picnic facilities and restrooms are available. The road leading to the parking lot is generally impassable in winter or after heavy rain.
