Cannington Manor Provincial Park

The Government of Canada saw the West moving away from a fur trading economy and towards an agricultural economy in the late 1800s. The village of Cannington Manor was founded in 1882 as an Eastern settlers' attempt to recreate an English aristocratic lifestyle, all supported by agriculture.

In its heyday, the villagers of Cannington Manor participated in fox hunts, developing theatrical productions and poetry clubs, as well as organizing tennis, polo, horse racing of English Thoroughbreds, cricket and croquet. However, isolation and low grain prices led to struggles for several years, and the village was abandoned in 1900.

Interpretation panels tell the story of this village from another era, and visitors are invited to discover the site during the summer. The Visitor Center and reconstructed buildings are open when park staff are on site. A picnic area and restrooms are available. Most buildings are wheelchair accessible.
