Return to Duck Lake and take Route 11 north to Prince Albert. This pretty town near the boreal forest is located on the North Saskatchewan River, 40 km west of its confluence with the South Saskatchewan River and 142 km northeast of Saskatoon. Prince Albert was founded in 1866 by the Reverend James Nesbit as a Presbyterian mission station near a fur trading post established in 1776. Named in honour of Queen Victoria's husband, the town grew as a logging center in the early 1900s.
Prince Albert is now the northern Saskatchewan hub, known for its gold and uranium mines. The city is also a gateway to the Prince Albert National Park region.
